Energy efficiency:

Although the appearance is traditional, the build is very modern. With brick on the outer, facing side of the homes, the inner shell is a modern timber frame. This provides an energy-efficient construction using environmentally-sustainable materials. The whole building is extremely well-insulated, with a suspended ground floor using polystyrene insulation up to 315 mm (over one foot) thick supported on concrete beams and covered with a reinforced concrete screed. Walls and roof are all well insulated, with, for example, 400 mm of insulation in the roof. Windows are double-glazed and argon-filled and are set in timber window frames.

Gas central heating uses a high-efficiency combi gas boiler. As well as supplying hot water for the heating, the combi boiler heats water as and when the hot water tap is turned on, avoiding the need to program the heating of a large tank of water hot; hot water comes when you want it.

The central heating system is fitted with a programmer/timer as well as thermostatic radiator valves.

All lights use low energy bulbs.

The benefit of high energy efficiency is, of course, lower heating bills.

Ventilation:

As the homes are built extremely air tight, with virtually no heat lost to air leaks, we provide constant background ventilation. A very efficient, low-power fan operates all the time, gently bringing in fresh air and removing stale air. This helps ensure good air quality. There is the option to boost extraction when needed.
